NCC Design of Mid-rise Timber Building: Specific Requirements

This course introduces the NCC’s design requirements, terminology and specific fire requirements for the design of mid-rise timber buildings.

The contents include:

  • Design requirements and terminology

  • Sprinklers, fire protected timber, FRL’s and RISF’s

  • Cavity barriers and non-combustible insulation

The course comprises 6 video modules:

VIDEO 1: Module 5: NCC Design Requirements & Terminology for Fire Performance

Length: 10:24

This module provides detailed information on section C of the NCC requirements for basic terminology used for fire performance. This segment is more catered for students than building professionals.

VIDEO 2: Module 5: Specific Requirements: Sprinklers

Length: 6:40

This module details specific sprinkler requirements, the risk reduction benefits and how they can improve the efficiency of sprinkler system.

VIDEO 3: Module 7: Specific Requirements: Fire Protected Timber

Length: 4:52

This module details specific sprinkler requirements, the risk reduction benefits and how they can improve the efficiency of sprinkler system.

VIDEO 4: Module 8: Specific Requirements: Fire resistance levels (FRL) and RISF

Length: 4:52

This module defines the NCC required fire resistant levels and resistance to incipient spread of fire values for Class 2,3 & 5 buildings.

VIDEO 5: Module 9: Specific Requirements: Cavity Barriers

Length: 8:56

This module details the specific requirements for cavity barriers within a building, types of cavity barriers available and installation details.

VIDEO 6: Module 10: Specific Requirements: Non-combustible Insulation

Length: 5:07

This module details the specific requirements for non-combustible insulation, typical installation products available, compliant products, product substitution and installation considerations.
