Northumberland Street
Collingwood VIC 3066
Australia
Overview
Designed by award-winning architectural firm, John Wardle Architects, this Northumberland street development for Impact Investment Group is located in the much desired suburb of Collingwood and will include a five level office building with exposed timber structures, featuring a ground floor café for building occupants, visitors and the local community. The development is designed with a particular focus on environmental and social sustainability , celebrating the municipality’s industrial past and local street pattern through a campus of built forms with diversity of scale, grain and architectural finishes.
Construction is well under way and Grocon, supported by Standstruct for the wood carpentry installation, has scheduled completion within 2020. The main lesson learned on this project has been a careful detailing of the interfaces between the timber components, which has very accurate cutting tolerances, and the other materials, namely steel and precast external walls. The adoption of specific assembly schedules has made it possible to integrate different materials, including a structural slab over the CLT, to form a truly hybrid structure.
