Australian Timber Design Workshop (ATDW) February 2015
Two weeks in UTAS, Launceston, Tasmania
Exact dates will be advised.
The UTAS School of Architecture and Design is continuing its long tradition in excellence in timber design and in learning-by-making with the 2015 Australian Timber Design Workshop (ATDW 2015). The ATDW provides those interested in the digital design and fabrication process associated with mass customized manufacture of timber buildings an opportunity to learn hands-on. The program specifically caters to undergraduate architecture and engineering students, building design professionals, and timber industry practitioners.
The two-week ATDW is a face-to-face workshop structured around the digital design and fabrication process with timber, and exploiting the full potential of digital fabrication tools at UTAS; laser cutters, 3-axis router, and 6-axis robot-arm router. Participants at the workshop will design and construct a timber artefact for the local community.
The ATDW will target cross-institutional enrolment of architecture students. Places will be made available for some UTAS students in order to introduce some local familiarity for incoming students for social events etc. The total number of students will be limited to 35. Online lectures, recommended reading, and links for software training will be offered up-front. Activities will be recorded during the two-week face-to-face workshop. Post-workshop assessment tasks will be defined to enable completion by students with cross-institutional enrolment.
