Are you interested in cutting edge 3D modeling tools, parametric design, using CADCAM fabrication, or designing complex forms with timber?

If this sounds like you, check out the Spring 2013 Digital Fabrication with Timber Studio (DFTS) course.

The DFTS offers you an online learning and familiarisation program followed by hands-on experience of the cutting edge digital design and fabrication process in timber right through from concept design to erected structure.

Before the workshop, the online program will ensure you are familiar with architectural and engineering precedents, the use of engineered wood products and the software tools and processes that will be used during the studio.

The three day studio is structured to develop your appreciation and understanding of 3D parametric modeling, digitally driven fabrication, rapid prototyping, and the design of geometrically complex structures in timber.

The heart of the experience will be designing, prototyping, fabricating, and constructing a timber structure. You'll be encouraged and supported as you make full use of the extensive facilities, including a well equipped timber workshop, laser cutters, CNC routers, 3D modeling software, parametric design tools and more.

Hands-on tutors for the DFTS include leading building industry professionals with international experience of timber in building design, skilled 3D parametric modelers, technical CAD-CAM operators, and those skilled in carpentry and joinery.

DFTS lectures by internationally experienced practitioners will give you inspirational and informative insights into specifying and detailing timber in geometrically complex buildings. The accompanying social program is designed to promote networking opportunities so you can establish professional relationships with like-minded people.

Presented by the University of Tasmania (UTAS) School of Architecture and Design and the National Centre for Future Forest Industries (NCFFI), the DFTS continues the UTAS School of Architecture and Design's tradition in excellence in timber design and in learning-by-making.

The offline component of the DFTS is at the UTAS School of Architecture and Design in Launceston, Tasmania.

For more details about this exciting opportunity, please download the brochure and registration form from UTAS's CSAW site.
