We are continually updating our library of resources and have recently published the latest review of WoodSolutions Guide 01, ‘Timber-framed Construction for Townhouse Buildings Class 1a’. in relation to the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022.

Multi-Residential Timber Framed Construction (MRTFC) is a certified fire and sound-rated timber construction system conforming with the requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for multi-residential buildings. For lightweight timber-framed construction, this guide demonstrates compliance with targeted fire safety and sound-insulation Performance Requirements in the BCA for buildings classified as Class 1a attached buildings. These buildings include row houses, terrace houses, duplexes, townhouses and villa units. The guide contains the use of solid timber blocking as fire resistance elements of junctions and holes in construction due to sequencing issues.

Fire and sound are critical issues in residential construction. Sound insulation tends to govern the choice of construction system because of its daily impact on the building occupants’ quality of life. In contrast, fire-resisting construction is essential for protecting against extreme events. The publication aims to assist in both areas. The guide also introduces solutions for fire separation of a garage-top dwelling.

It is specifically written for use by designers, specifiers, builders and certifying authorities for timber-framed Class 1a attached buildings, separated by a fire-resisting and acoustic wall.

Download this guide now along with the CAD drawings of relevant figures to equip yourself with all the information you need for the design and construction of BCA compliant sound and fire-rated projects.
