New Tamedia Office Building - Zurich
Traditional Japanese carpentry techniques as practised by miyadaiku (carpenters who build temples) and sukiya daiku (carpenters who build tea houses), are interpreted by Shigeru Ban in engineered timber with CNC machinery to create interlocking members, devoid of the usual connections and adhesives.
The results is an elegant wooden frame encased in glass. Brilliant. See more at Shigeru Ban Architects website.
