Timber Systems Detailing

About this Event

Timber Frame, and more recently, Mass Timber is a widely used form of construction in Australia. Although for some professionals it may be unfamiliar and require a different approach.

The speed of construction on a well organised site is one of the key advantages of using timber products, however, detailed pre-planning is a fundamental requirement to maintain the advantage that this fast-moving construction methodology provides.

This WoodSolutions seminar will focus on key design elements for the architect, builders, site supervisors and engineers, and look at some of the systems that can be used to achieve compliance with the Building Codes and determined from the initial design specification.

We are fortunate to have experts in their fields to present on subjects including:

- Timber Treatments and the various options available - Timber Preservers Association of Australia

- Firestopping to Timber Party/Separating Walls & Compartment Floors including fire collars, service risers and more – TBA Firefly

- Plasterboard products used for linings and achieving FRL compliance in timber structures – USG Boral

- Cost Engineering of Timber Buildings – WoodSolutions Midrise Advisory Program

This seminar is a must for all architects, building surveyors, builders, engineers and building designers. It will also interest design managers in project-based roles, and all building professionals including Construction Managers and Site Supervisors.

Program and Speakers

09.00am Seminar Registration – Engineers Australia, Adelaide

09:20am Seminar Welcome & Introduction – Barry Brunton, WoodSolutions

09:30am Plasterboard in Timber Construction – Framing & Massive Timber

Presented by Kelly Watson – USG Boral

Kelly will discuss the importance of selecting the right plasterboard product for various timber construction applications to achieve the appropriate FRL as required from the design. There are several options available to the market that serve different functions. Consideration should also be given to installation and best practice.

10:00am Q&A with Kelly

10:15am Firestopping details in Timber Construction – Framing & Massive Timber

Presented by Steven Taylor – TBA Firefly

Steven will present on the importance of correct detailing of service risers and penetrations in party/separating walls and compartment floors/ceilings in timber structures. In addition, he will help us understand that correct detailing and installation of cavity barriers is essential for all building types, but specifically how they are placed in timber buildings.

10:45am Q&A with Steven

11:00 TO 11:20 MORNING TEA AND NETWORKING

11:20am Timber Preservation Treatments

Presented by Jack Norton – Timber Preservers Association of Australia

Jack will talk to us about the various treatment’s types available in Australia, and the methodology on how these treatments are achieved. He will also talk about the various treatment levels and what each of the Hazard classes refer to. In addition, he will give us an indication on various timber products used on a building site and its required treatment level.

11:50am Q&A with Jack

12:05pm Cost Engineering of Timber Buildings - Midrise

Presented by Laurence Ritchie - WoodSolutions

Laurence will break down how builders and developers can take advantage of timber systems from a cost perspective and provide comparisons against equivalent construction materials. He will highlight the key to optimised design, early contractor involvement and overall program benefits.
