Pilbara Vernacular Demonstration Home: Meeting the Challenge of Creating Sustainable Communities as a Legacy of the Resources Boom

Brief: LandCorp developed The Pilbara Vernacular a guide for engineers, architects, urban designers, builders and local government to challenge the way development in the Pilbara’s unique conditions is considered. It also guides the overall Pilbara Cities vision fora sustainable future.

The guide does not impose statutory assessments or administrative strictures. It aims for practical solutions within a framework of key design values:

•Incorporating natural landscape

•Building on cultural and historical identity

•Mobilising for change and innovation

LandCorp will showcase the implementation of the Pilbara Vernacular principles at Madigan Estate Karratha by presenting the winning design of the Pilbara Vernacular Demonstration Home competition.
