Description
‘The Clancy’ is a new 6 storey, 40 room hotel situated in the heart of Surry Hills, and the first mid-rise timber project for both builder (Alessi Design + Build) and client (8Hotels). Located on busy Elizabeth St just a few minutes from Sydney’s Central Station and landlocked from both sides and the rear, this project posed many challenges to the design and construction teams.
In this webinar hosted by the Mid-rise Advisory Program and Partner organisation Xlam we will hear first hand accounts from the supplier and builder of the project, detailing the many innovative solutions that were required to achieve a successful project outcome. Just one of these solutions, massive timber construction was utilised from the first floor of the building, bringing many logistical and buildability benefits to the project.
The first of this Mid-rise specific webinar series, this session is suitable for all architects, engineers, builders, developers, and other consultants looking to learn more about massive timber construction, and how it can be used in your next mid-rise project.
Our Mid-rise Advisory Program aims to raise awareness of the use of timber in construction to 25 metres. We would like to expand our knowledge based on the professions and industry participants in our MAP Webinar Series (in conjunction with WoodSolutions) and therefore will collect general data, without any personal contact details, based on registrations. Should you choose not to have this type of information used for our strategic work, including liaising with our Partners please tick the OPT OUT box in the webinar registration form.

Connie Alessi, Director @Alessi Design + Build
'I've been in the industry now for 18 years and 14 of those years I've had my own design and construction firm. We've completed jobs across all disciplines from high end residential, childcare, healthcare, hotels and a number of heritage redevelopments. At the moment you may have seen the cross laminated timber construction that we're working on. We are at the forefront of this construction methodology and really excited about the success so far. The CLT construction is fully sustainable and renewable. I'm the sole director of the company and we've come to gain a reputation of being high end boutique builder's, nominated for a number of awards for our Albion Street project. I have had a passion for speaking to young women and encouraging them to embrace construction if they have an interest as for me it's been incredibly rewarding. My first degree was in Interior Architecture and after two years in the industry went back to complete a Masters in Construction Management. On a day to day basis I'm in an on site construction management role.'
