Description

Future Building Initiative at Monash Art, Design and Architecture and event partner WoodSolutions would like to welcome you to a lecture by Dr Jerker Lessing, followed by a panel discussion on Making Buildings Better.

At a time when Australia faces an urgent housing crisis in terms of affordability and supply, we must look for new ways to make building better. We invite you to join Dr Lessing to learn how Sweden has pioneered high-quality housing solutions through a commitment to innovation, robust academic-industry partnerships, and the development of a thriving timber building industry from early forestry and timber milling partnerships to regulatory changes that have unlocked timber multi-storey construction. Dr Lessing is an authority in offsite construction and the development of innovative building systems. During his presentation, Dr Lessing will reflect on the Swedish journey of industrialised construction, exploring the socio-cultural aspects of this innovative approach to improve building delivery and what have been the criteria for their success.

A panel discussion will follow the presentation, and panellists will be announced shortly.

This is a free event, but seats are limited and will not last long. Save your spot to hear from international expert, Dr Jerker Lessing.

About the Speaker

Dr Jerker Lessing is a globally renowned expert in industrialised construction with more than 20 years of experience in both industry and academia. He currently acts as an independent advisor and consultant working with clients all over Europe and North America. He is Adjunct Professor at Stanford University (USA) and Linköping University (Sweden) where he teaches and is doing research around industrialised construction (IC). His PhD focused on strategic aspects of IC and he presented a framework describing the concept and its success factors which has become a foundation for both academic and industry research internationally.

Between 2015 and 2023, Dr Lessing spent eight years as Director of Research and Development at BoKlok, a joint venture between IKEA and Skanska, Sweden’s leading housing company based on IC principles. He is frequently engaged as a speaker, lecturer and moderator, and has co-authored a book and numerous articles about IC. Dr Lessing founded and has taught the industrialised construction course at Stanford University since 2013 and, since 2014, organises the annual Industrialised Construction Forum at Stanford University.
