Boola Katitjin, Murdoch University is a multi-award-winning mass engineered timber building. It has demonstrated that designing for Country with circularity, collaboration, and innovation at the forefront results in outcomes that benefit both people and the planet.
Constructed from glulam and cross laminated timber, sourced from sustainable suppliers in Australia and Europe, Boola Katitjin provides an absolutely stunning architectural and engineering, educational environment. Boola Katitjin means ‘lots of learning’ in the local Noongar language, and there was certainly lots of learning during and in this amazing project.

Dr Carey Lyon
Founding Director·Lyons Architecture
Carey Lyon is one of the Founding Directors of Lyons - an acknowledged leader in design within Australia for the award-winning projects he has led and co-led over the last three decades and thorough which he has amassed a wealth of experience. Carey shares his knowledge and expertise every day, as a Director at Lyons and also as a Professor at the RMIT University’s School of Architecture and Design. He is also an acknowledged leader in sustainability and has acted as a Director and Board member of the Green Buildings Council of Australia (2007 – 2014).
Ralph Belperio
Major Projects Director·Aurecon
With more than 35 years’ experience in the design, documentation and delivery of commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential buildings and developments Ralph has extensive experience in managing the delivery of large, multi-disciplinary projects across all sectors of the construction industry. Ralph has a developed expertise in timber engineering, having been involved in the design of engineered timber structures across the breadth of his consulting career.
