World Conference of Timber Engineering

WCTE 2012 aims to provide a forum for the exchange of the latest technological advances, research results and design innovations in timber engineering.

The conference will be of practical value to engineers and architects, researchers, educators and manufacturers in the field of timber engineering.

The people with a real hands-on role in building with wood are carpenters. National Carpenters Day is a celebration of their work and contribution to carbon sequestration.

The world’s largest timber structures

With Lendlease's Forte hitting the news as the world's tallest timber residential building, we thought its time to look at some other iconic timber structures. Staying with the theme of extremes, the largest building seemed an obvious area of exploration - in this short item we look at US airdocks - a volume contender.

Yale University tall timber presentation

Both Andrew Waugh and Michael Green have visited Australia and presented to WoodSolutions audiences. Recently they joined forces to present to a Yale University audience. Their presentation is both interesting and inspirational - if you are interested in sustainable building development.

Carbon storage in composite wood products in landfill

On of the challenges for sustainable design is to allow for the environmental affects during the lifecycle of a product - and this includes after the end of its service life. Typically wood products are recycled, buried as landfill, increasingly burned as fuel and sometimes burned as waste. The question this report addresses is how long do wood products and paper continue to sequester carbon after they are buried as landfill? The answers will surprise many.

2012 Wood Certification Forum Report

A group of almost 100 representatives from ENGOs, the forest and wood industry, retailers, manufacturers and engineers gathered at Dockside in Sydney's Darling Harbour on Thursday 31 May to discuss and workshop the current state of wood products certification in Australia.
