Mid-rise Construction: Lightweight & Massive TimberSolutions – Design & Specification Symposium

With innovative lightweight timber-framed and massive timber panel projects now commencing all around Australia, the early adopting engineers and architects are reaping the economic and environmental benefits of specifying timber. Interest continues to grow rapidly, with companies large and small, stepping-up to design and build with timber on a variety of projects. Opportunities for timber construction are also likely to grow, as the proposed 2019 NCC is considering expanding the mid-rise timber Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions to all classes of building.

In a comprehensive and structured program, leading timber industry and building professional experts shared the latest knowledge on key design, specification, cost, supply and construction considerations for delivering successful mid-rise timber buildings. The presentations ranged from project conception, through detailed design to construction – using the wide range of timber building systems. These included lightweight timber-framing, heavy timber post and beam, and massive timber panels such as LVL or Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).

This free full-day symposium had two parallel delivery streams: architectural/design and engineering, to allow specific technical design and specification discussion. The aim of the Symposium was to provide a solid understanding of how to design and deliver an optimised mid-rise timber project.

Selected presentations are available for download from this page.
