Government

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources – the forestry section of this Australian Government site has links to wide range of information about the industry and many related sites. The former Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry was dissolved into this department in 2013.

Forests Australia – Forests Australia contains the most up-to-date information available on Australia's forests - from links to forest management organisations and institutions to the latest forest-related publications, maps and tools.

Forestry Tasmania – Forestry Tasmania has the statutory responsibility for the management of 1.5 million hectares of State forest land. This land contains 39% of the Tasmania's forests.

Primary Industries and Resources SA Forestry – information related to the management of forestry in South Australia including overviews of PIRSA Forestry's current programs and resources such as industry guidelines, fact sheets and educational materials.

Queensland Government: Business and industry – information and links to other sites about forestry in Queensland.

VicForests – a Victorian State Government enterprise, VicForests aim to build a responsible business that generates the best community value from the commercial management of Victoria's State forests.

 

Industry Organisations

www.afg.asn.au – Australian Forest Growers (AFG) is the national association representing private forestry and commercial treegrowing interests in Australia.

www.afca.asn.au – the Australian Forest Contractors Association Ltd (AFCA) looks after the interests of the harvesting and haulage contractors within the timber industry across Australia.

www.ausfpa.com.au – the Australian Forest Products industry has a great story to tell of a carbon positive, renewable, natural and environmentally friendly resource.

www.atif.asn.au – the Australian Timber Importers Federation represents the interests of the timber importer / wholesaler sector of the national timber industry. It is responsible for coordinating the State activities of timber importers and wholesalers and identifying issues that are of National significance and therefore can be best handled nationally.

www.ewp.asn.au – The Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA) is an independent JAS-ANZ accredited organisation, funded on a voluntary basis by veneer, plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and wood panel manufacturers  in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

Services include certification, chain-of-custody, technical support, education and training and a broad scope of standards and codes. This includes coverage of the Plantation Timber Certification System (PTCS)  for the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA). Products covered by the EWPAA PTCS are structural softwood in accordance with AS/NZS 1748 and AS 2858 and in some cases non-standard products (provided that the manufacturers can prove that those products are fit for purpose).

www.fwpa.com.au – Forest and Wood Products Australia Ltd (FWPA) is the industry's not-for-profit services company that provides research and development, knowledge dissemination and generic industry promotion.

www.fiatas.com.au – the Forest Industries Association of Tasmania represents the interest of processors of Tasmanian forest products. FIAT's role is characterised by helping to create the right external environment within which industry has to operate. This has two main dimensions - the policy environment and the public image of the industry in the eyes of the community.

www.forestindustries.com.au – Forest Industries Federation of WA aims to raise awareness and encourage learning about the management and use of Western Australia's South west native forests and Softwood and hardwood plantations.

www.forestworks.com.au – ForestWorks facilitates learning and skill development in the forest, wood, paper and timber industry through proactive engagement with Government, industry associations, enterprises, unions and individuals.

www.ftmaaustralia.com.au – the Frame & Truss Manufacturers Association of Australia Ltd (FTMA Australia) is an independent, national organisation representing fabricators of and suppliers to the pre-fabricated timber Truss and Wallframe industry.

www.forestry.org.au – a professional body engaged in all branches of forest management and conservation in Australia.

www.nswfpa.asn.au – the NSW Forest Products Association is the representative organisation of the forest and forest products industry in NSW. FPA principally exists to represent the NSW hardwood timber industry at parliamentary, political and senior Government levels. It also provides advice and assistance to branches on resource and market development as well as supplying factual forest management information to the community as required.

www.tpaa.com.au – Timber Preservers Association of Australia (TPAA) represents the nation's timber preservation industry. It is an organisation comprising timber treaters, suppliers of preservatives, research organisations, and individuals and bodies having an interest in the use of preservative-treated timber. The TPAA promotes a knowledge of the principles and methods of timber preservation within the industry, assists in the establishment and adherence to Standards for the treatment of timber, and promotes best practice in the production of treated timber.

www.tca.org.au – Timber Communities Australia (TCA) is an independent not-for-profit national organisation that provides support and political representation for grassroots timber industries and their communities to ensure their interests are heard and evidence considered through the various levels of government. They aim to ensure long term access to Australia's forest resources for maintaining regional employment opportunities in forest dependent sectors, creating new regional development initiatives and promoting the commitment of regional forest workers to sustainable forest management, conservation, harvesting and utilisation.

www.timber.asn.au – Timber Merchants Association works in conjunction with a number of industry bodies in representing the industry to government bodies on such issues as Chain of custody and Certification for timber, Life cycle assessment and Green Star building regulations as part of the wider communities concern with sustainable timber products and building practices.

www.timberqueensland.com.au – Timber Queensland provides the Queensland timber industry with a unified voice to participate in developing a whole-of-industry position on issues which impact our members.

www.timberveneer.asn.au – the Timber Veneer Association of Australia represents decorative wood veneer and decorative wood veneered panel products in Australia. They are actively involved in the promotion and expansion of the market of decorative wood veneered panel products manufactured in Australia; developing industry standards; providing education for our industry and all end users; and a forum for networking for its members.

www.vafi.org.au – the Victorian Association of Forest Industries (VAFI) is the peak industry body of the native hardwood processing industry in Victoria and represents its members' interests to government, the community and markets.

wadic.org.au – the Window and Door Industry Council Inc (WADIC) is a service organisation for timber window and door manufacturers supplying products to the building and construction industry. WADIC's role is to assist members in compliance with relevant Australian Standards and codes, to promote the environmental and energy performance benefits of member's products, and provide members with options for window energy rating systems.

www.wpv.org.au – Wood Products Victoria (WPV) aims to develop, promote and protect the use of sustainable timber and wood products to ensure timber products are used wherever and whenever they are the most suitable materials.

Industry Standards

www.responsiblewood.org.au – Responsible Wood is a not-for-profit that develops and manages the elements of the Australian Forest Certification Scheme – recognition for sustainable management of forests and chain of custody.

http://www.fscaustralia.org – FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. FSC certification is a voluntary, market-based tool that supports responsible forest management worldwide. The FSC label ensures that the forest products used are from responsibly harvested and verified sources.

ABARES Science and Innovation Awards – these awards aim to encourage people between the ages of 18 and 35 years to use science, technology and innovation to advance the future of agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food and natural resource management industries.

This site contains an overview of the industry, information about wood, using wood and its environmental benefits.
