Structure
The frame for the Tiny Home is built from a steel portal frame, supported by a PFC steel raft as the base. The rigid frame allows for the structural integrity necessary for the strong headwinds during transport.
Special attention was focused on sustainability and thermal performance during the design phase. An innovative 7 layer roof and wall system includes satchels of soybean and coconut oil, that help to regulate temperature temperature through a ‘phase change’. The resulting thermal performance is similar to that of a 100mm concrete wall.

Interior
The Tiny Home interior is finished with radial sawn Victorian hardwood. Cork flooring panels were used as a sustainable and practical floor finish. Form ply joinery was a practical solution for the seating and cabinetry, matching the exterior colour palette.
Maddison Architects collaborated with graphic designer Clare Kelder to produce purpose designed soft furnishings in Australian wool.
Compact living is celebrated with fold out tables, micro bathroom, playful cargo net as a kids escape and built in seating much as you would expect in an aluminium Viscount caravan from the 70’s. Planting is included in window reveals, bringing a closer view of nature inside.
