It’s no secret that mid-rise timber construction is quickly gaining traction in Australia, but did you know that our market is relatively young compared to that of North America and Europe?

One of the earliest adopters of timber construction systems in the mid-rise market was Sweden, introducing an allowance for tall timber buildings in 1994 (a whopping 22 years before Australia’s code changes). With decades of experience now accumulated and hundreds of mid-rise timber projects built, Sweden arguably leads the world in adoption of timber construction.

In this presentation, we welcome Marie Johansson, Senior Researcher at the highly regarded Research Institute of Sweden (RISE), who will bring us up to speed with the state of mid-rise timber construction in Sweden. A rare opportunity to gain an insight into the future of timber construction, this presentation will include content discussing both the current processes and the areas of future research for Marie and RISE.
